Spinning Georgia's treachery with the Cobb County Courier: Or, how mass corruption in the Georgia State Legislature led to untold pain and discomfort for medical patients.
It’s Not Easy Spinning A Police State. Further tales of the Gold Dome Goons. A comedy re-write of an excellent article by Rebecca Gaunt. Plus, my two cents added.
I’m also a medical cannabis patient who moved from Georgia to Oregon. I suffer from acute anxiety over an incident with the Cobb County police back in 2013.—Kevin Holden
The ten year battle to get Georgia’s most needy patients CBD.
When HB 885, to legalize medical cannabis, died on Sine Die of the Georgia legislature in 2014, Jimmy J-Bo Wages turned to his daughter Sydney with tears in his eyes and said, “Baby, Daddy’s not stopping. We’re gonna keep the fight going. But first we have to move out of this God-forsaken state. ”
Nine years later, the Wages were the first customers to purchase medical cannabis at one of the first two dispensaries to open in Georgia.
10 Years Gone
The state of Georgia makes much more money from arresting folks for using cannabis. So, the bills would stall and the usual BS would occur. BS like delays and corruption.
“2,934 days since patients first got cards,” said Shannon Cloud, who was also frustrated by the delays.
Cultivation and Corruption
Even after the cultivation bill passed, the process was slow to get rolling, and then plagued by lawsuits from business applicants alleging the selection process for the licenses was fraudulent and corrupt.
Enter Georgia State Politics (The Cobb Way)
It was a learning experience for many of the parent and patient advocates who were new to the world of state politics and the challenges of getting a bill through to the finish line when they first met in December 2013 to prepare.
5% THC & Cards
Georgia’s medical program is a limited one as THC is capped at 5%. Edibles and smokable forms are not permitted.
My current THC level medicine is 68% THC, if that gives any perspective.
About 27,000 people currently hold cards.
Still illegal (sort of)
Recreational use is still illegal in Georgia. But if you smoke in Cobb County, the woke DA will not press charges, so cannabis is basically legal.
An Important Milestone
“The state of Georgia has reached a very important milestone for some of the most fragile patients in our state. — Rebecca Gaunt with Kevin Holden
Until next time.
God bless all.
