With suspended and controversial Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill’s federal civil rights trial slated to begin today, Clayton County’s Police department, not suprisingly, face a federal lawsuit.
Airport Shake Down, Or Random Consensual Encounters With Black Men?

Comedians Eric Andre & Clayton English, Sue Clayton County Police Over Alleged Constitutional Violations.
The police chief, four police officers, and a district attorney’s office investigator are listed on the lawsuit against Clayton County. André and English also seek a declaration that the Clayton County police’s jet bridge interdiction program is unconstitutional. The comedians say officers singled them out during separate stops roughly six months apart because they are Black and grilled them about drugs as other passengers watched.
Coercion?! Who, Me?

The comedians lawyers claim these stops “rely on coercion, and targets are selected disproportionately based on their race,” whereas the police department refers to the stops as “consensual encounters” that are selected at “random.”
The Incident
“I was just racially profiled by two plain clothes Atlanta PD police in Delta terminal T3 at the Atlanta airport. They stopped me on the way down the bridge to the plane for a ‘random’ search and asked they could search me for drugs. I told them no. At that moment, I was the only POC on line.”Andre tweeted in April,2021. Andre later recalled the incident on the Jimmy Kimmel late night comedy show.
Drugs,Racism, Or Cash?
The lawsuit claims that the purpose of the program is to fight drug trafficking, yet records show that from August 30, 2020 to April 30, 2021 show there were 402 ‘jet bridge stops’ at the Atlanta airport. The lawsuit also states that those 402 stops yielded more than $1 million in cash and money orders from 25 passengers, but only two people—the same caught with drugs—were charged.
Until next time, God bless all.
